Starbucks Signals the Start of Fall

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

I was at Starbucks today, not a note-worthy event in and of itself, and I saw that they have their Pumpkin Spice Latte out. I have seen the leaves falling, and my kids are starting school next week, but this is an undisputed sign of fall.

Although it is not my favorite drink, I ordered the PSL anyway, to help myself feel like it is fall. I don’t know where my summer went to, but it is now officially over.

You thought the traffic crunch was over …

Monday, August 27th, 2007

The I5 traffic congestion went surprisingly well. But now President Bush is coming into Bellevue this afternoon and the roads must be cleared for him. This will involve closing some roads. For security reasons “they” are not telling us the exact route, but there are only so many ways to get from Sea Tac to Bellevue. Some staff members have given up pretense of mystery and allowed that he is traveling on 405.

So, if you live or work in or near Bellevue, SeaTac Airport, or somewhere in between, you are advised to stay late, or do whatever magic we did the last few weeks to disperse traffic.

If you are still buying things from China …

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

…. stop, already.

Now Mattel is recalling 7.3 million made-in-China toys because they may have lead paint. If this sounds familiar, it’s because recently Fisher-Price recalled made in China preschool toys with lead paint.

The recall includes Polly Pocket, Batman, Doggie Day Care, Barbie, and Sarge metal cars. According to a spokesperson, the scope of the recall is intentionally large in order to err on the side of safety. View their website for full details.

Downtown Renton Art & Antique Walk

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

This is the second annual event of it’s kind. There is no fee to wander around and look, and you can buy directly from the artists - no commissions are collected on sales.

The show will take place on August 25th, so if you are an aspiring artist, apply to show your work. For more information, or to apply, call 425-430-6589

National Crime Prevention Day

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Today, Tuesday August 7th, is National Crime Prevention Day.

If you are having an event in your neighborhood, Cities of Covington and Auburn will send a council member or police officer to speak.
For Covington, call 253-638-1110 ext 2243
For Auburn, call 253-931-3035

For Renton, or other neighborhoods that didn’t volunteer this service, I think it’s still worth giving them a call and asking.

Huge Fisher Price Recall

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Fisher price is recalling 83 different preschool toys which may contain lead paint. I thought that stuff was long gone, but this recall affects perhaps 1 million toys.

The toys involved are Nickelodeon and Sesame Street toys sold since in the last few months. The list is too long to blog, but click here to visit their web page and see them all.
